Yesterday afternoon a couple of the guides had to check to make sure we placed our houses in the right spots. Judging by these pictures, the upcoming ice season looks to be promising!

 

Garrett, one of our amazing ice guides, caught these 3 beauties in 26' on the south shore. He caught the 27 1/4" and 26" each on a glow in the dark red spoon and the 20 1/2" on a glow in the dark wonderbread buckshot!

Way to go Garrett! Season starts today and we're more than ready!

ICE UPDATE:


Lake of the Woods is making ice (claps and cheers)! Currently there is anywhere from 3-7" on the lake. We have been checking the ice conditions using extreme caution. At this time there are no official trails open to the public.
  
Today's temp is right around 10 degrees, tomorrow calls for a low of 4, and wait for it... this weekend we are expecting lows below 0!

We are still taking it day by day but, we hope that by Monday (12/28) we will be able to start getting some work done on the ice and begin the much anticipated ice season!

ICE UPDATE:


Bostic Bay continues to be covered with ice. Unfortunately, it is very inconsistent and unsafe. There is anywhere from 2-8" in any given spot. Over the weekend, Lake of the Woods did freeze over but once again, the ice is inconsistent.

We are monitoring the ice conditions each and every day. We are expected to get 1-3" of snow tomorrow (12/22). The next few days are going to be very detrimental in determining ice conditions for this weekend.

We currently do not have any expected date as to when we will be hauling our houses out and fishing. Please be patient as we hope to bring you day to day ice reports.

ICE UPDATE:


The river and Lake of the Woods remain open but, chunks of ice seem to be covering the shores. Rather than getting rain this past weekend, we did end up with about 1-2" of snow! There is cold weather in sight!


We are no longer able to get out onto Lake of the Woods due to the fact that Lighthouse Gap is littered with ice chunks. Fishing the river has been HOT! We believe that fishing on the south end will be much better this year than in previous years.

The guides are hopeful that they will begin poking around on the ice by Christmas. Last year they were up by Garden Island on Christmas Eve.


Keep crossing your fingers, folks! It seems to be working!

ICE UPDATE:

 Lake of the Woods and the Rainy River continue to be wide open. Our guides have been fishing the open water in boats but, are using extreme caution due to some floating ice chunks. The walleyes are looking healthy and seem to be feisty. Hammered gold jigs topped with a frozen shinner are doing well. We had a fairly good shinner run this fall and the fish seem to be staying on the south end.


Bostic Bay is currently iced over with roughly 1-2" but, the ice is rotten and honeycombed from rain this weekend. The ice is not safe at all. 
 

We have been offering our cabins at a discounted rate due to the poor ice conditions. All cabins during this time are just $45 per person/per night.


Below is a picture of our fishing guide, Brent Fredrickson, from Saturday (12-5) with a nice 24" walleye caught on Rainy River. He was fishing in a boat with the top up. Dedication at its finest.

Well,  the summer is in full swing around here at Cyrus Resort!  We are just about booked for the whole month of June and a lot of July but, we still have some openings if you want to get together and try your luck out on the great Lake of the Woods. 




The hot colors this week have been pink, purple, and gold.  We see the most luck and consistency with straight jigging.  The spinner bite is a little spotty but we continue to try it. Our captains are spending a lot of time up north right now hitting up Bridges, Garden, and Knight.  There has been some luck in shallow waters too, 4 to 10 feet to be specific. We are finding that the bite in shallow waters has been good in the early and late hours.  Crawler bite is definitely starting to pick up as well.

It's March 1st already! Remember, we have a month and a half of walleye fishing left this year on Lake of the Woods. The season goes until mid April, and the fish houses can stay on the lake until March 31st. Keep in mind that the fishing licenses need to be renewed as of today as well.

Some good reports this week.  Fish are spread out, electronics and focusing on fishing helps the fish bucket.  Good reports between Knight and Bridges islands and Garden Island in 27-33′.  A morning bite reported in 18′ off of Pine Island. Combo of walleyes and saugers the norm.  Most groups catching supper each day, many limits and mixed in trophies.

Fishing has been hit or miss the last couple days. We've had a few good reports from groups catching limits and nice slot fish, but a good amount of the reports have been fishermen taking only a hand full home per day. Most groups have been catching on average 2-3 slot fish through out the day and most of them have been getting into a good amount of tulipee. We have plenty of spots plowed for wheel houses. Today we have rows plowed at 6.5 and 6.7 miles. Conditions will be day to day due to snow accumulation we are getting at the moment. We are selling frozen shiners and fathead minnows in the lodge.

Half of our winter ice fishing season has already passed! We still have a couple months left, so get your friends together and make a trip up North!! We have an access at Cyrus that goes 12-13 miles onto the lake. We are also plowing and maintaining spots for customers to set up portables and/or wheel houses. Our restaurant is open from 6:30am-9:30pm seven days a week. Come and spend a few days at the lake! There were a bunch of trophy walleyes caught last weekend also with a good combo of keeper sauger and walleye

Catching has been improving in the last couple days and we are gearing up for a fantastic upcoming weekend! Lake of the Woods is the best place in Minnesota to enjoy our incredible winter! The bite is picking up as more anglers are taking home limits of walleyes and saugers, with some jumbo perch and trophy walleyes mixed in. Plain hook with a live minnow has been effective. Ice conditions average 22 inches and snowmobile trails are now groomed with an additional 10 inches of snow.

It was a windy blustery day today. We got 4 to 5 inches of fluffy snow last night and it blew around all day. We were able to get everyone into houses for a day of fishing, as the sun came out late morning and cleared up, turning into a nice day after all. We will be plowing out tomorrow morning at 7:30am and will keep the access at the resort open. Fishing was a little spotty today with the weather, but there have been a rising number of slot and trophy fish being reported as well. Best depths have been either 34' over mud or 21-28' from the Morris Point Gap. Best colors are bubble gum, gold and a red glow. The best fishing has been in the mornings and afternoons. Electronics are always helpful in finding those suspended fish cruising 5-6' off bottom. Have fun and be safe, we are entering a stretch of days with very cold temps!
